COMPLEX CHALLENGES.
SIMPLE SOLUTIONS.

Combining data science and network theory into flexible visual tools to tackle systemic  social challenges.

  • data science

    DATA SCIENCE

We bring contemporary data science tools to the climate finance sector to reveal insights that are invisible to the naked brain and to empower critical thinking with data. We combine these tools with rigorous data discovery and a unique pedagogy informed by decades of experience making sense of messy data.

  • network theory

    NETWORK THEORY

Everything is not equally - or randomly - connected. We leverage the intricate architecture of networks to find order in the chaos and make sense of complex, multi-dimensional problems from the shortage of STEM teachers to personal data and privacy Our focus is now on the climate crisis.

  • visual interfaces

    VISUAL INTERFACES

Our interactive maps allow for a unique, multifaceted view of data that empowers non-data scientists to see the big picture and drill into details to support evidence-based decisions. Our goal is to make data discovery easy enough that it sparks curiosity to ask questions we didn’t think to ask.

CLIMATE FINANCE TRACKERS

The climate problem is incredibly complex and will not be solved alone. We need better ways to collaborate and navigate this crisis together. To that end, we are creating tools to visualize climate funding flows to organizations and companies on the ground. Using our Climate Finance Trackers, climate funders and ‘ecosystem builders’ can explore who is funding what, what are the gaps and opportunities, who to talk to or convene for shared learnings, and what type of capital could be most effective where.

Climate change is disrupting all foundational aspects of human life - from food, water, and agriculture to public health, livelihoods, and social cohesion. While enterprises big and small are stepping up to meet the climate emergency and trillions of dollars in investment will be made in climate solutions in the next decade, how can we ensure this capital is distributed effectively and equitably? Climate funders need to consider the big picture, spot gaps, redundancies, and opportunities, and work together to secure our future.

OUR MISSION

The climate crisis is an “all hands on deck” problem. Trillions of dollars will be deployed in the next decade across climate mitigation and adaptation. Trillions will also be wasted without good data to guide funding decisions. Everyone needs to see who is funding what in order to identify high impact gaps & opportunities. Our mission is to increase the impact of climate finance by supporting funders and field builders with public and open-source data tools to empower:

  • Discovery …by making climate funding data visual and searchable.

  • Insights …by revealing high impact funding gaps impossible to see with the naked brain.

  • Action …by bringing data to life by supporting evidence-based decisions and narratives.
